Stars lock in Sam Steel with four-year, $14.8 million extension

The veteran forward, coming off a career-best 33-point season, is now under contract in Dallas through 2030-31.

The Dallas Stars signed forward Sam Steel to a four-year contract extension worth $14.8 million, keeping him with the organization through the 2030-31 season. The deal was completed ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Steel, 28, joined Dallas in 2023 after beginning his career with the Anaheim Ducks, who selected him 30th overall in the 2016 draft. The Sherwood Park, Alberta, native has appeared in 229 regular-season games for the Stars, recording 27 goals and 55 assists for 82 points.

His role has been primarily on the third or fourth lines, but he has also skated alongside top-line forwards such as Mikko Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston. He is regarded as a reliable penalty killer, with more than 450 minutes of shorthanded ice time since arriving in Dallas.

Steel posted a career-high 33 points in 2025-26, following seasons of 24 points in 2023-24 and 25 points in 2024-25.
