Minerva girls golf wins sectional; West Branch girls soccer stays unbeaten

Stark County-area high school roundup: Minerva took a Division I sectional title in girls golf, and West Branch rolled to its 10th straight win.
Peyton Beaumariage and Emery Sell finished first and second at the Cambridge Division I sectional, played in rain at Cambridge Country Club, to lead Minerva to the team title. Beaumariage earned medalist honors with a 79, Sell shot an 82, and the Lions posted a 342 to finish three shots clear of runner-up John Glenn. Minerva will play its district tournament Sept. 28 at Crystal Springs, where it is the defending champion.
In volleyball, McKinley defeated Northwest 25-14, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13 behind 19 service points, including four aces, from Stormy Brown and 13 kills from Ni'Kiza Elder. Lake Center Christian swept Mogadore 25-8, 25-15, 25-11 as Lilly Cain contributed 12 kills, seven aces and six digs.
In boys soccer, Lake Center Christian beat Manchester 4-2 with two goals from Vladik Torchilo and a goal and an assist from Levi Larson. In girls soccer, West Branch shut out Ursuline 10-0 behind two goals from Caide Schroeder and goals from nine different players, improving to 10-0 on the season. Tuslaw edged Central Catholic 2-1, with Jessica Jacob scoring for the Crusaders.
In tennis, Hoover topped Louisville 4-1, with Maria Fernandez winning her No. 2 singles match without dropping a game.
