Raptors convert ex-Gonzaga guard Malachi Smith to two-way contract

Toronto signed Malachi Smith to a two-way deal after upgrading rookie guard Jaden Bradley to a standard NBA contract, per a report.

The Toronto Raptors have signed former Gonzaga guard Malachi Smith to a two-way contract, according to a report from Michael Scotto. The move opened up after the club promoted rookie guard Jaden Bradley to a standard NBA deal, freeing one of its three two-way slots.

Smith had agreed to terms with the organization last month, though his role was uncertain before Monday's conversion. As a two-way player, he can appear in as many as 50 games for the Raptors while also spending time with Raptors 905, the franchise's G League affiliate.

The guard reached the NBA last season with the Brooklyn Nets, joining on a 10-day contract on March 13 and later signing a two-year standard deal. He played 15 games, starting four, and posted averages of 8.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 48.5% shooting from the field and 43.5% from three.

Smith scored in double figures six times with Brooklyn, including a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double against the Milwaukee Bucks on April 10. He also logged G League time with the Rip City Remix, Wisconsin Herd, Memphis Hustle and Long Island Nets.

In college, Smith began at Wright State and Chattanooga before finishing at Gonzaga in 2022-23, when he averaged 8.7 points and 3.6 rebounds and was named West Coast Conference Sixth Man of the Year.
