The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 on Sunday at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg in a preseason game that featured largely developmental rosters. Colorado brought only about eight players considered opening-night roster caliber.
Gabriel Vilardi opened the scoring, finishing a setup from Isak Rosen and Vladislav Namestnikov. Cole Perfetti made it 2-0 in the second period off a feed from Mark Scheifele, and Dylan Demelo added a third-period point shot for a 3-0 Winnipeg lead.
Georgii Merkulov scored Colorado's only goal, with assists from Brett Kulak and Fabian Lysell. Goaltender Ilya Nabokov allowed two goals on five shots before Colorado's skaters limited Winnipeg's chances the rest of the way.
The two teams meet again Friday at Ball Arena in Denver, with puck drop scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MT.
