New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said Monday that the team is weighing practice-squad call-ups at safety after Craig Woodson and Dell Pettus were hurt in the Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Vrabel told reporters that safeties Mike Brown and Elliott Davison are the two options on the practice squad, adding that veteran players there prepare each week as if they will start. Woodson is nursing a shoulder injury and Pettus an ankle injury.
The Patriots have not set a return timetable for either player. Their status will depend on medical evaluations and how much they can practice during the week.
Brown has appeared in 38 career NFL games with five starts, recording 60 total tackles, 35 solo tackles and two passes defensed. Davison has yet to play in a regular-season NFL game.
