Los Angeles Rams running back Ronnie Rivers was ruled out of the team's Week 2 Monday night matchup against the New York Giants with a calf injury, according to a report from The Athletic's Nate Atkins on X.
Rivers sits third on the Rams' depth chart behind starter Kyren Williams and Blake Corum. A former undrafted free agent in his fifth season with the Rams, he has 314 rushing yards on 77 carries without a touchdown, plus 90 yards on 16 receptions, and contributes mainly on special teams. He has also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.
Head coach Sean McVay praised Rivers in August, saying he trusted the running back's instincts, pass protection, and feel in the run and screen games. The Rams kept Rivers over 2025 fourth-round pick Jarquez Hunter. "If for whatever reason they need to be supplemented, Ronnie Rivers is the guy that I trust," McVay told reporters.
Los Angeles led the Giants by two scores when Rivers exited, with Williams and Corum carrying the load as expected. The injury nonetheless leaves the backfield short-handed, with the roster already missing Myles Garrett and Puka Nacua.
