Derby linebacker/defensive end Taylen Washington announced his commitment to Kansas State, becoming the first Class of 2028 player to pledge to the Wildcats.
Taylen Washington, a two-way defender from Derby High School in the Wichita area, announced his commitment to Kansas State on social media Monday, Sept. 21. He is the first player in the Class of 2028 to pledge to the Wildcats under head coach Collin Klein.
Washington is listed at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds and plays both linebacker and defensive end. He is not yet ranked by 247Sports or Rivals.
According to MaxPreps, Washington has recorded 19 total tackles this season, including three for a loss. He posted two sacks in Derby's season-opening win over Eisenhower.
The Wildcats extended an offer to Washington in May. He had made a gameday visit to Kansas during the 2025 season, visited Iowa State in April, and taken part in multiple Kansas State camps. It is unclear which other programs pursued him.
