New York's rookie quarterback left Monday night's game against Los Angeles after his knee bent awkwardly on a first-drive hit, with an MRI set for Tuesday.

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart left Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams with a left knee injury suffered on the opening drive. Initial reports indicate a suspected sprained MCL, and Dart is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity.

The injury occurred on a third-and-8 incompletion intended for Theo Johnson from the Rams' 41-yard line, when Dart was hit by Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart in the pocket. His knee appeared to bend awkwardly on the play. He was able to walk off the field slowly under his own power and was later checked in the medical tent before limping to the locker room.

Dart was ruled out for the remainder of the game and, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, wanted to return. Giants general manager Joe Schoen told ESPN the quarterback is "going to be OK." Jameis Winston took over at quarterback beginning with New York's second offensive series.

Former NFL team physician Dr. David Chao said in a video review of the play that he did not believe the injury was a season-ending ACL tear, suggesting instead an MCL sprain likely measured in weeks rather than months.
