Foxworth Doubles Down on Cowboys Defense After Win Over Washington

The former cornerback says Dallas remains a team he cannot trust defensively despite a 37-20 defeat of the Commanders in Week 2.

Dallas beat Washington 37-20 in Week 2, but the result came with warning signs. The Commanders piled up 389 yards of offense and 24 first downs, more than the 332 yards Dallas managed, and ran for 182 yards as a team.

Jayden Daniels rushed seven times for 69 yards before a dislocated elbow knocked him out of the game. Marcus Mariota took over at quarterback and kept the offense moving, passing for 111 yards and a touchdown.

Speaking on ESPN's "Get Up," former NFL cornerback Domonique Foxworth said the defensive troubles have persisted for more than a year and that he is finished believing in the unit until the results change. He pointed to the New York Giants pushing Dallas around in the opener and Washington controlling things offensively with a backup quarterback.

Missed chances to finish sacks by Donovan Ezeiruaku deepened the worries, and injuries thinned the defense further. Safety P.J. Locke departed AT&T Stadium in a walking boot, cornerback Cobie Durant also left the game, and linebacker Jaishawn Barham saw limited action.

Owner Jerry Jones took a different view, saying the defense is improved over the past two seasons and highlighting impressive offensive play. Dallas, 1-1 like its opponent, faces the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3 in Rio de Janeiro.
