Thompson Twins' Extensions Complicate Duren's Pistons Contract Talks

Jalen Duren's unresolved restricted free agency in Detroit is reportedly shaped by the big-money deals signed by Ausar and Amen Thompson.

Jalen Duren remains a restricted free agent, and his contract dispute with the Detroit Pistons has dragged on without resolution. Coming off an All-NBA Third Team selection, the big man entered the offseason seeking a maximum contract. No such offer has come, and he has reportedly refused to accept less.

According to The Athletic, the extensions received by the Thompson twins have become a factor in the negotiations. Detroit committed five years and $155 million to Ausar Thompson, an average of $31 million per season. His twin brother Amen Thompson landed an even larger agreement, five years and $208 million to remain with the Houston Rockets.

Duren reportedly views himself as belonging to a tier above both twins. Amen was a Defensive Player of the Year finalist, but neither brother earned All-Star or All-NBA honors last season, while Duren achieved both distinctions during the regular season.

A weak playoff performance, however, has reportedly hurt Duren's market value. If no agreement is reached, he could play the upcoming season on the qualifying offer and depart in free agency next summer.
